Chiropractic

Once I go to a chiropractor, will I
always have to go?

Whether or not you continue chiropractic care is always your decision. As chiropractors, we strive to correct the structure of the spine. When we achieve a corrected spinal structure with our patients, we do recommend continuing chiropractic care to maintain the correction that we and our patients have worked so hard to achieve. Chiropractic adjustments are not a one time fix as the body and spine are constantly undergoing various stressors and external stimuli which can negatively affect structure. So, we do recommend maintenance care on schedules that vary depending on the patient's structure, age, and lifestyle to maintain optimal structure.

Does a chiropractic adjustment hurt?

Chiropractic adjustments should not be painful, though you may experience some initial soreness when beginning care, similar to what you'd feel after a workout at the gym. Just like any change (even good change!) the body must adapt to this change and may respond with minor discomfort. This is normal! As you progress with your chiropractic care, this should not continue. We recommend that you make sure you are communicating exactly how you are feeling with your chiropractor both before and after your adjustments so that they can best meet your needs! Often, our patients describe feeling relief and greater mobility after their visits with us.

Can chiropractic cure everything?

Chiropractic does not cure everything. The intention of chiropractic care is to improve structural alignment and function allowing the nervous system to function properly so that the body can get back to healing itself. Our bodies are incredibly well designed and when they are functioning properly they are able to deal with issues that arise. Chiropractic care helps people achieve good alignment so their bodies can work on healing themselves.

Why would I have my newborn or
young child adjusted?

Baby positioning during pregnancy and the delivery process itself can often be extremely challenging for newborns. Getting a newborn's spine checked early is a great way to ensure your child can grow without dysfunction. In terms of young children the same truth applies in encouraging healthy growth. Children play lots, and often have little falls and injuries. Chiropractic helps keep children moving well despite injuries that may occur through life. Chiropractic care for newborns and young children may be due to injuries or health concerns, or it may simply be proactive care with parents wanting to help their children grow up as healthy as they can be.

Can chiropractic help with colic and how?

Chiropractic care can help with colic. Colic is defined as uncontrollable crying for 3+ hours a day, at least 3 days a week for 3 weeks or longer. Different reasons for colic include gastrointestinal discomfort or sensitivities and nervous system immaturity. When a chiropractor treats an infant dealing with colic the focus is on the spine, ensuring any misalignments are resolved so that their spine can develop properly and allow correct nervous system function. When the spine and nervous system are functioning properly, this allows the other organs to develop well and the body to continue to grow in a healthy fashion.

Does insurance cover chiropractic visits?

Insurance coverage for chiropractic visits depends entirely on your individual insurance policy, but most policies do cover chiropractic care to some degree. This would be a great question to ask your insurance provider!

How much does it cost?

Initial Consultation: We are running a New Patient Special! $50 will cover your initial consultation, any necessary x-rays, and a follow up report with your recommended personalized care plan. Call us to book your appointment and make sure to mention that you saw our $50 special on our website!

Regular treatment: $50 per adjustment. When you receive your personalized care plan recommendation, there will be payment options with discounts included and explained if you choose to sign up for care.

Do I need a referral from my physician?

No, just give us a call to book. We will explain the whole process and we are ALWAYS accepting new patients.

Do you work with medical doctors?

Chiropractors are primary care providers which means that you can come see a chiropractor without being referred by a medical doctor. With that being said it can be beneficial for your medical doctor and chiropractor to be able to communicate and share information about your care to keep you as healthy as you can be. In that case, we get the patient to confirm that they consent to their health information being shared with their medical doctor or vice versa. We are more than happy to work with your medical doctor and unite in working towards your best health.

Will I get adjusted on my first visit?

No, we do not do adjustments on the first visit. We always begin with the initial consultation and when necessary we request x-rays to review before putting together a personalized care plan recommendation which we will review with you before beginning any care.

Will you suggest exercises or other
things I can do?

Yes, absolutely! Included in your personalized care plan, we will also have various recommendations for stretches and exercises depending on your needs and capabilities for you to implement into your daily routine to support your progress.

Can someone who has had back
surgery see a chiropractor?

Many people do see chiropractors after they have back surgery. When we see a new patient, we do a thorough health history and physical exam, as well as any additional testing or imaging as required to ensure we can safely perform treatments before we begin care.

How does the New Patient Process Work?

We begin with an initial consultation. If the doctor is wanting to see x-rays, we would then send you for x-rays to our local clinic (covered by OHIP). Next, we would book you to come back to our office on a different day to review our recommendation for your personalized care plan. If you choose to begin care, you would receive your first adjustment at this appointment and begin your care plan.

How often should my child be adjusted?

Adjustment frequency depends on your child's specific circumstances, but we often see children on a weekly basis to help keep them growing strong and feeling their best, especially as children go through so much growth and change. As they learn to sit, crawl, walk, play, etc. there can be small falls or injuries that take place that are best to be corrected as early as possible to keep them in their healthiest state possible.

How safe is an adjustment during pregnancy?

Chiropractic care is safe for women during pregnancy. While pregnant, a woman's posture changes, ligaments loosen, and muscles can be strained and aggravated. Chiropractic adjustments help maintain optimal alignment during pregnancy so that women can move well and remain as comfortable as possible as they progress through their pregnancy. Chiropractors who care for pregnant women may use specific tables or tools to adjust and follow specific gentle protocols to ensure the spine and pelvis are cared for throughout pregnancy. In our clinic, Dr. Amy is certified in the Webster Technique to treat our pregnant patients.

How often do I need to come in?

Adjustment frequency always depends on your individual circumstances. With pregnancy chiropractic care, it is our goal to keep both mom and baby moving comfortably. We often see our pregnant patients weekly due to the significant changes that are occurring in the pregnant mother's body.

Will you work with my ob/gyn/midwife?

Yes absolutely, open communication between healthcare providers provides significant benefits to patients. If a patient wishes for us to be in contact with their other healthcare providers, we are more than happy to do so. In that case, we get the patient to confirm that they consent to their health information being shared with their ob/gyn/midwife or vice versa. When a healthcare team is connected and communicating, they help to ensure that a pregnant mother receives the best care possible and this helps to alleviate any stress or confusion a patient may be feeling.

Why be adjusted during pregnancy?

When you become pregnant you will start to carry a lot more weight at the front of your body and this changes your posture and impacts the structure of your spine, putting more pressure on different joints, muscles and ligaments. Chiropractic adjustments work on realigning the spine so there isn't undue tension on different areas of the body. This allows women to move well during their pregnancy and feel good throughout this season. In addition, chiropractic care throughout pregnancy is helpful both for preparing the mother's body for birth and helping the baby have a smooth delivery.
