Headaches from Screen Time? 5 Tips from a Chiropractor

person with a headache sitting on a bedDo you find yourself getting headaches after spending a lot of time staring at a screen? This is very common, and can be especially frustrating!

As we know many of us spend a lot of time in front of some type of screen (be it our computer for work, our phone for communication, or our television for entertainment), we have put together a few tips to help combat these frustrating headaches!
  • Follow the 20-20-20 Rule: Every 20 minutes, look at something 20 feet away for 20 seconds. This reduces eye strain, which is a common trigger for tension headaches.
  • Adjust Your Screen Setup: Ensure your computer screen is at eye level and about an arm’s length away. Poor ergonomics can lead to neck and shoulder strain, contributing to headaches.
  • Practice Good: Posture Slouching while using a screen puts extra pressure on your neck and upper back. Sit upright with your shoulders relaxed and feet flat on the floor.
  • Stay Hydrated: Dehydration can cause headaches. Aim to drink at least 8 glasses of water a day, especially if you spend hours in front of a screen.
  • Seek Chiropractic Care: Chiropractors can identify and treat tension and misalignments in your neck and upper back that may be contributing to headaches. Regular adjustments can improve posture and reduce the frequency of screen-time-related headaches.

We know that screen time is a part of modern life, but its effects on your health don’t have to be. With these tips, you can minimize headaches and keep your neck and back in top shape. For personalized care, visit Herron Family Chiropractic in Cobourg.
