Do you feel like the winter makes it more difficult to stay active and flexible? If you do, believe me, you are not the only one! With the cold weather, we tend to be inside and sitting more often. As a result, we have to be extra intentional with our at home stretches and exercises!
We have compiled some helpful exercises for you to implement into your daily routine to help you feel your best, even with the cold weather!
- Cat-Cow Stretch: This yoga pose is excellent for improving spinal flexibility and relieving tension. Begin on all fours, arch your back upwards like a cat, then dip it downwards like a cow. Repeat 10 times.
- Hip Bridges: Lie on your back with your knees bent and feet flat on the floor. Lift your hips towards the ceiling, hold for a few seconds, and then lower them back down. This strengthens your lower back and glutes. Repeat 10 times.
- Seated Spinal Twist: While sitting on a chair, place one hand on the opposite knee and twist your upper body. Hold for 10-15 seconds and repeat on the other side. This improves spinal mobility and flexibility.
- Wall Angels: Stand with your back against a wall, feet a few inches away. Slowly raise your arms like making a snow angel, keeping them in contact with the wall. This exercise strengthens postural muscles.
- Neck Stretches: Tilt your head to one side, bringing your ear towards your shoulder, and hold for 10-15 seconds. Repeat on the other side. This relieves neck tension and improves flexibility.
Why Exercise Matters
Regular movement keeps joints lubricated, improves flexibility, and prevents stiffness. These simple exercises can be done daily to maintain mobility and reduce the risk of pain and injury.
